It’s Christmas! My gift to you is this picture of a very capable cat/bird/woman riding a flying surfboard with her surf rat boyfriend trailing behind with a severed limb.  There’s a paper version in this month’s Tracks.

I’m starting a PHD in March 2010, and guess what it is in? COMICS!

Soon you’ll be forced for address me as Doctor Pat, just like the tobacco. Ha.

Also, checkout the Atlas just released by Ronnie Scott and his vast team of talented cohorts at The Lifed Brow. There’s a creative piece for every country in the world. Poetry, prose, comics, illustration and sound recording. I’ve got a really strange illustrated story in there about Luxembourg.

I just updated this site with a bunch of new comics and some new illustrations. All of surf art from 2009 has been posted so lap it up dear friends. I’m going to start a new blog to chronicle the creation of my next comic book. Watch this space.

Also, Allen and Unwin are releasing an Australian comics anthology next month and I have a few pages in it. Included are all of my favourite Australian cartoonists. Check out The Tango Collection. Buy one for your guinea pig.

Big news! Pat Grant was granted a Grant to make the first few chapters of a graphic novel. Expect chapter one in the later months of 2010. Expect landscape oriented pages, three teenage punks, several thousand tentacles and great care taken in depictions of suburban architecture. Thanks Kevin Rudd! Toot toot!

Whoa! Guess who got a shout-out on the Inkstuds blog? Robin McConnel, the inkstud himself, makes great radio for anyone who needs to sit up late at night drawing. My favourite shows have been the ones interviewing Peter Kuper and Jordan Crane.

I’ve been pretty lazy posting to this News section haven’t I? Well here’s some news… I’ve got a solo gallery show coming up at the fantastic Brunswick Bound gallery in Brunswick … Wow! … It’s so, like, ‘Melbourne’ to have a gallery show… It’s really true… I’d never have a gallery show in N.S.W… I’d feel like a wanker. In Melbourne everyone is a wanker so… you know… “when in Rome”.

The show is in February. Watch this space. Yeah!
